5 advantages of online therapy I’ve seen in practice

Online Therapy Psychotherapy Flexibility

When I opened my online practice, many people asked: Does it really work as well as meeting in person? Today, after many online sessions, I can say with confidence: yes – and for many people even better.

Here are five advantages that have stood out to me and my clients:

1. No commute – more energy for what matters

In-person appointments involve travel time, parking, and waiting. Online, all of that disappears. That energy goes into the session instead.

2. Familiar environment – greater openness

Many of my clients tell me they find it easier to talk in their own surroundings. Your own sofa, familiar objects around you – that creates a sense of safety and encourages openness.

3. No geographical limits

Whether you live in a city with long waiting lists, are based abroad, or travel frequently: online therapy enables continuity regardless of location. For Germans living abroad, this is a real advantage.

4. A lower threshold to start

For many people, the barrier to physically visiting a therapist is high. Online, the first step is often easier – and that can make all the difference.

5. Equal effectiveness

Video-based psychotherapy is now well-supported by research. Multiple meta-analyses show results comparable to in-person therapy – for depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and many other concerns.

Of course, online therapy is not the best choice for every person or situation. In an initial session, we’ll explore together whether this format works for you.
